Kevin and Nancy’s wedding day was one of those days that felt full from the very beginning, not just with events, but with connection, family, and a lot of laughter.
We started the day by attending 2 tea ceremonies, 1 with each side of the family. This is always one of our favorite parts of a wedding day. Tea ceremonies give us a front row seat to watching 2 families come together, each bringing their own traditions, energy, and personalities into 1 shared space. It is intimate, emotional, and grounding in a way that sets the tone for everything that follows. We would be lying if we said we did not love the chance to enjoy good food with the couple and their families and loosen up a bit before the rest of the wedding festivities begin.
After the tea ceremonies, we headed to the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden for Kevin and Nancy’s first look. This moment was incredibly sweet. Tears were shed, quiet vows were exchanged, and everything around them seemed to slow down. From the moment they saw each other, they completely relaxed and became fully themselves. This is always what we hope for during portraits. When couples feel comfortable enough to let go, the experience becomes fun, natural, and honest. Kevin and Nancy were absolute naturals, and their energy made the entire portrait session feel effortless. We left that part of the day already knowing how much we loved what we were creating.
We wrapped up the celebration at Koi Palace, which is funnily enough just minutes from my (David’s) home. Banquet style weddings always hold a special place for us. There is far less logistical stress compared to more traditional setups, the food is amazing, and the whole night feels like 1 big party from start to finish. That energy was definitely present here. Between the table visits, the endless toasts, and the drinking games, time flew by. After about 30 minutes of table hopping, we genuinely lost count of how many tables we had visited lol. Kevin and Nancy were absolute troopers, keeping up with the drinks, the laughter, and all the friendly instigation from their guests. Naturally, we had to step in and help where we could.
Kevin and Nancy, thank you for trusting us and for letting us be part of such an important chapter in your lives. It was an honor to document your day and experience it alongside you.
Cheers,
David & the rest of the FJM team ✌🏻
